"Ohia Trees, The Big Island, HI", 2018, Watercolor, Oils and Oil pastels on Oleo Paper, 17" x 29.63", ©Julie Castillo 2020.
The Ohia tree is a very special tree to the Native Hawaiian. It is Hawaii's sacred tree and the keystone native tree that feeds insects and birds. It populates the landscape of Hawaii and is endangered. The view that inspired me is of the outline, the shapes of the trees across the landscape. The grouping of the tress impressed me, along with the contrasting greens and the violet sky. A very tranquil image. Created with watercolors and oil pastels on Oleo paper.
